Reed’s home studio of sixty years was surrounded by trees. In 2010, while taking care of his wife Esther, Reed began painting the trees. This last series of paintings was the culmination of his creative journey as an illustrator, graphic artist, color field painter plus his post war abstract works.

The Lorton Work House Arts Center held a solo exhibit “Ultraviolet to Infrared in 2011.” The Tree Paintings, acrylic on cotton muslin, were displayed in their tall windows giving a cathedral like effect to the hall.

Nathan Roberts, Reed’s grandson, has placed these paintings in light boxes to give the same stained glass effect. They work well as light fixtures or as a window in a windowless room. They are very much a twenty-first century expression.
These works are signed and dated by the artist. These works may use battery operated or plug in LED lighting. All sizes include frame and box.
